The Rescue Process

1. Toys Are Donated

Families donate their gently-loved stuffed animals to The Bunny Bin so they can find a new home instead of ending up in a landfill.

2. They’re Prepared For Their Next Adventure

Each rescued toy is processed, photographed, and given its own Rescue Certificate before being listed online.

3. Biweekly Rescue Drops

New toys are released on the website every two weeks. Because every rescue is one-of-a-kind, quantities are limited, and once a toy is adopted, it’s gone.

4. Choose Your Rescue

Browse the current toys, read their stories, and adopt the one that feels right.

5. Shipping & Fulfillment

Orders ship from Vermont within 7–10 business days. The Bunny Bin is currently a one-woman operation, so thank you for your patience as each rescued toy is carefully packed and sent on its way.

Initial Assessment

Each toy is:

  • Inspected for structural integrity (seams, stitching, loose parts)

  • Evaluated for stains, odors, and visible wear

  • Reviewed for safety concerns (loose eyes, choking hazards, etc.)

Toys that cannot be safely restored are responsibly diverted—not resold.

Cleaning & Restoration

Every toy that comes to The Bunny Bin goes through a multi-step intake process designed to prioritize safety, care, and longevity.

“Hibernation” (Preventive Freezing)

As a precaution, toys are placed in a sealed environment and frozen for 72 hours.

This step neutralizes any potential pests before handling.

Cleaning Method (Based on Construction)

Because toys are made differently, cleaning methods vary.

Machine Wash (when appropriate)

Washed on a gentle cycle using mild, fragrance-free detergent.

  • Plush-only toys with no electronics

  • Secure stitching

  • Colorfast fabrics

Air-dried to preserve structure and fibers.

Surface or Spot Cleaning

Surface cleaned using a mild soap solution and carefully dried.

  • Toys with battery packs or sound components

  • Delicate or vintage materials

  • Structured toys that cannot be submerged

We avoid language like “sanitized” because we do not claim sterile conditions. Each toy is thoroughly cleaned using methods appropriate to its materials.

Repair & Restoration

After cleaning, each toy is evaluated for structural wear. When appropriate, we perform careful repairs to extend the toy’s life, including:

  • Reinforcing or restitching seams

  • Replacing stuffing or eyes (with sustainable materials)

  • Securing loose limbs

Repairs are done with durability and safety in mind—never cosmetic shortcuts. We do not:

  • Replace original features with unsustainable parts

  • Alter a toy’s core identity

  • Repair toys with structural damage that compromises safety

If a major repair has been made, it is disclosed in the item description. Our goal is preservation, not perfection.

Final Quality Check

Before listing, every toy is:

  • Re-inspected for safety

  • Brushed/fluffed if needed

  • Photographed

  • Assigned a Rescue Certificate

We never hide wear. Any issues are disclosed in the description.

How to Read Item Descriptions:

Please take note of Care & Condition Notes in item descriptions. These identify how a toy was cleaned (machine-washed or spot-cleaned), whether major repairs were made, if small parts are present, or if special shipping applies.

Not every toy will have Care & Condition Notes. When present, they are there to ensure clarity, not alarm.

Rescued toys aren’t new, and we do our best to ensure every one is in the best condition possible before it goes to a new home. Our goal isn’t perfection. It’s honesty, safety, and thoughtful restoration.

Thank you for welcoming a rescued toy home.

Important Safety Note: We sell pre-loved, secondhand toys. All items are cleaned and inspected, but may show signs of prior use. The Bunny Bin cannot guarantee the conditions in which they were previously stored, including exposure to pets or other environmental factors. By purchasing, you acknowledge that The Bunny Bin is not liable for any misuse, wear, injuries, or allergic reactions. Adult supervision is recommended for young children.
