Donation Guidelines

The Bunny Bin accepts gently used toys that might otherwise be discarded. Your donation:

  • keeps toys out of landfills,

  • supports a growing circular economy, and

  • helps us honor all the love these toys have known, as well as the joy they’ll bring to their next home.

We hope every rescue raises a small flag for overconsumption and the value of toys made to be loved over and over. But just as fast fashion favors the fleeting, some toys on the market just aren’t built to last—and each rescue takes time and resources to clean, repair, and prepare for rehoming. While we hope to raise awareness around overconsumption and toys designed to last only a single brief season of play, having a few quality benchmarks ensures we can truly rehome each donation and keep the project sustainable.

Before you donate, please give your stuffy or bag of stuffies a quick once-over—especially if it’s been sitting in storage for a long time. If you wouldn't feel comfortable gifting it to a child, it's probably not ready for The Bunny Bin. All donations should pass a basic inspection before they're sent our way.

We sadly can't accept stuffies that are heavily soiled, show signs of pest exposure, or have extreme pilling that can't be reversed. Here's a quick guide:

  • Soiling: Surface dirt that can be spot-cleaned is fine. Deep stains, strong odors, or anything that has been wet and not properly dried (which can cause mildew / mold) are not.

  • Pest Exposure: Any signs of mice or other pests—including seeds, debris, droppings, or chew marks—are an automatic no. This is a health and safety issue and we're unable to make exceptions. Any item received with signs of pest exposure will be safely disposed of. We appreciate your desire to upcycle them, but the health and safety of our team and customers comes first.

  • Pilling: Light pilling that can be brushed out is okay. When fibers are permanently matted, melted, or felted—rough, dense, and dirt-trapping to the touch—no amount of cleaning or grooming will restore them. If you're not sure, run your hand across the fabric. If it feels more like felt than plush, it's likely beyond rescue.

A few other things we can't accept: pillows, dog toys (or toys that have seen heavy pet use), and styrofoam-filled toys like carnival prizes. We are also very selective about dolls—soft dolls built more like stuffies are generally welcome; dolls with hard plastic parts less so.

We know how much you love your toys, and we don't take these guidelines lightly. If a stuffy arrives and we're unable to restore it, we'll do everything we can to keep it out of the landfill—whether that means recycling, repurposing, or finding another path forward. The landfill is always our last resort.

Not sure if your stuffy makes the cut? Please reach out before you ship—we're always happy to help you decide. We'd much rather you checked than see something land in a landfill that could have been saved.

The Next Chapter

Donations are accepted during the collection windows listed in The Bunny Bin Calendar. Collections in towns outside Woodstock are typically held one day per month. Please sign up for a drop-off time, so we know how many donations to expect and can plan accordingly.

How to Book:

  1. Before scheduling with The Bunny Bin, please read over the donation guidelines in full. Donations should be limited to two standard kitchen-sized bags per drop-off unless otherwise arranged.

  2. Select a collection date on the calendar.
Click the event to view the details.

  3. Follow the link in the event description to claim a drop-off time.
You'll be taken to a scheduling page where you can choose an available 5-minute appointment. This reserves your spot within a 30-minute window, and you can arrive anytime during that window.

  4. Complete the booking form to reserve your spot.
You'll receive a confirmation email once your drop-off time is scheduled. Please add the event to your calendar so it doesn't get overlooked, and hang onto that confirmation email (it has your drop-off details).

**If the collection window is fully booked, please check back for future collection dates.

If you’re unable to make your scheduled time, please let us know as soon as possible. We’ll be leaving shortly after the collection window ends. Please don't leave your stuffies unattended at the drop-off location—given the chance, they may wander off on their own. If you arrive and don't see us, wait and hand your donation to us directly. If we're not there by the end of your 30-minute window, take your stuffies home with you rather than leaving them to make a break for it. We're unable to take responsibility for stuffies on the run.

If you have trouble reserving a time, please reach out and we’ll be happy to help get you scheduled.
